As the 10th anniversary of Rock Band 2 approaches, I'd like to know, which would you prefer? And what new features do you wanna see?Although I can see understandable reasons for and against either answer, I would choose RB5.That could go pretty wrong, but if it ended up successful, it could be a good revitalization for the series. Also, I would really love to see better character animation and mocap, as 3 and 4 have been very lacking in that area.
(140): 165. Godzilla save the earth ebirah.
I'm sick of seeing the vocalist just bob their head in front of a mic stand. Plus choosing 'attitudes' for characters was great. In terms of deeper customization for characters: I'd like to see something like Saints Row 2, where you can choose your character's primary facial expression, layer clothing (instead of just 'top' and 'bottom'), and save outfits, so you don't have to always assemble an outfit piece by piece. It would also be cool if there was 'pattern customization.' Stick with upgrading and bolting on stuff to Rock Band 4 as a platform. Honestly, it's been a long time since it's been called Rock Band 4 in official marketing, it's been Rock Band Rivals only for a while now.
Even actually doesn't have 'Rock Band 4' as a graphic anywhere on the page.A Rock Band 5 at this point would just be a pointless userbase split. This isn't the 360/PS3 generation anymore, they don't need a new title to introduce big new features. The only time I'd expect a Rock Band 5 is on a new generation of consoles, and even then Harmonix may just go ahead and drop numbering entirely.
To build on this:On the 360, an update was limited to 4MB, and had to reside in RAM, until much later in the console's life. Rock Band 3 was built on the SDK that allowed 4MB patches, but there was still some limitations (file size, what could be changed, still had to be built as a diff for what was on disk, etc). This is the super simplified explanation of that whole system, too.The Xbox One and PS4 patching backends are so flexible that you can ship an entirely different game as a patch.
This would never happen, but technically they could send out a patch for Rock Band 4 that makes it into Destiny 1, or Forza Motorsport 5. That's how flexible it is.(Technically, Destiny: The Taken King was this for Destiny 1. It was a whole client replacement, not really a patch in the normal sense)So, they don't need a new retail release to have new animations (which they just did!), they don't need a new disc anymore to add a whole new mode ala Brutal or Rivals (like with RB2's Battle of the Bands and RB3's keys), they don't need a new title to add new songs (that's how we have the Rivals songs built-in to the client), etc.
Continued support. I don't need the headaches of importing my 1000+ songs into another game and potentially losing more to licensing issues. This latest update proves how much they can do with a patch. I would love it if they just kept tweaking what we have until it's perfect.Edit: The only reason I can see to have a Rock Band 5 anytime soon would be to get new instrument bundles in the stores. The lack of hardware is needs to be addressed, and this might be the only way it ever will be.
